研究競賽馬嘅 conformation, 通常認為"高度 height" = "長度 length" 會跑起來最 efficient.
高度 = "wither" to "ground"
長度 = "point of shoulder" to "buttock"
睇吓圖中呢隻高度, 長度係咪均勻？

- if 高度 height > 長度 length, then
the horse may be predisposed to forging, over-reaching and other gait defects
- if 長度 length > 高度 height, then
the horse may experience difficulty in synchronization and coordination of movement
從運動(奔跑時)平衡學角度分析, 除長度與高度比例對稱外, 其他一般被認同既馬匹conformation見解還包括:
(a) If forehand > hindquarters (由其是 downhill topline), then
the horse's center of gravity tends to be forward. This causes the horse to travel heavy on his front feet, setting the stage for increased concussion, stress, and lameness. (前腳易有事唔襟跑)
(b) If level of the withers ≥ level of the croup, then
the horse's center of gravity is located more rearward such that it can carry more weight with his hindquarters, thus move in balance and exhibit a lighter, freer motion with his forehand. (狽得起磅)
(c) If front lower limb length (chest floor to the ground) < the distance from the chest floor to the top of the withers, then
it may lead to a shortcoming of choppy stride. (出腳短步幅窄)

一掌 (1 hand or handbreadth) 即係約男性手掌嘅濶度 (下圖 No.3) (我估係鬼佬手掌 或 liup 嘅手掌), 一般定為 4吋 (不是 SI unit)。此單位 (hand high (hh))一般用以量度"馬匹"及其屬科動物嘅高度 (重申 = ground to the top of the withers)。
